Extended Day Care Program
An extended day care program is available for students in grades K - 8. Day care is available on all school days from 7:00 - 7:55 a.m. and 2:30 - 6:00 p.m. On minimum days, the program runs from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. This service provides a safe environment along with opportunities for exercise, reading, games and homework assistance.
Paul Effman Music Service
Students who are interested in playing in a band can choose to learn the flute, clarinet, trumpet, drums, bells, saxophone or trombone. Classes are held every Thursday during the school year. Open to students in grades 3 -8 with or without experience. Each student receives a 30-minute small group lesson scheduled between 2:45 and 4:15p.m.
CYT@ School
Theater for Kids
CYT, the national leader in children's theater, is devoted to introducing performing arts to children, by providing a high-quality experience that is educational and enjoyable. The curriculum offers standards-based instruction by teachers who are enthusiastic, fun, positive role models. Classes are offered twice a week to grades 1-3 and grades 4-8. Classes run for eight weeks. All students perform!
Folklorico Mexican Dance
Students learn to perform traditional Mexican dances each Friday throughout the school year. Costumes for performances are provided. Class is limited to 30 students. Grades 3-8 only.
Heartlight Aerobics
Heartlight Aerobics is a program of California School Fitness. Students learn jazz, hip hop and aerobics dance steps while following their teacher dancing to choreographed routines. Heartlight Aerobics is scheduled for February/March and is a seven-week program.
Mad Science
Mad Science offers a hands-on, one-hour science program that is thematically based upon a particular area of science and includes such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations and participate in inquiry-based discussions. Children take home exciting projects that they make themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. Curriculum meets state and national science standards. Mad Science is scheduled throughout the school year and runs for 5 weeks at a time for grades K-6.
Chess Academy
Chess Academy teaches students how to analyze strategic situations. Chess teaches students to plan, organize, and multi-task their thinking. U.S. Chess Federation certified instructors will make it interesting and fun. Classes are held once a week November through March.
Sing 'N Speak Spanish
Sing 'N Speak Spanish is a highly interactive fun language program that fully integrates music into a four-year curriculum. Classes include visuals, singing coupled with descriptive movements, humor, puppets, stories, games activities, and role-playing! Students learn Spanish easily and become enthusiastic about learning a second language. It is a proven system, with over 550 yearlong courses taught since 1998 in schools throughout San Diego County. Classes meet weekly after school and continue throughout the school year. Each lesson is 45 minutes long with a maximum of 12 students per class.
